Apple recently announced their new iPhone – and of course the internet followed suit in ripping it apart.
Critics were knocking that it didn’t have a major hardware update, there weren’t any groundbreaking new features, and that Apple was really dropping the ball when other companies are constantly creating new, innovative features while Apple was resting on it’s laurels.
I’ll admit, even I was a little disappointed and decided not to trade in my iPhone for the newer model.
Then I remembered – I didn’t have to.
You see, when Apple releases their new models they also release the software upgrades which brings your current product up to speed. With the exception of the major hardware change – it’s almost like having a new phone. As an Apple user I can stay with the times and get new features without constantly having to replace my products.
Instead of wasting resources constantly creating something completely “new” Apple gradually optimizes and improves what it already has created, keeping it’s loyal following and making sure we don’t feel like we’re being left behind. This allows them to work on their next groundbreaking product in the background until it’s ready to launch. And when they do launch something new, they consistently change the game.
While everyone else is in a race to out-do each other and release the next shiny and new “big thing”, Apple is in it’s own lane blazing trails at their own pace.
They are a company that courageously strides forward even when everyone else is tearing them down, because they are so confident in their vision and see the direction their headed that no one else knows.
The question is, what is your vision for your business? Will you compromise because others tell you “should” be doing?
So many business owners are compromising on the business that they want because they’re afraid of what people might think, or that they won’t be able to afford them, or that they’ll be missing out on some opportunity.
What I’ve found, especially after branding nearly 200 entrepreneurs at this point, is that ANYTHING is possible. Whatever your vision is, you can do it your way. The key is your brand and knowing what you stand for and how to communicate that. When you have a trailblazing brand, it puts your message out there like a beacon to the right people.
When your business becomes more about what you stand for than what you think will sell, or what everyone else expects – that is when you’ll create a loyal following like Apple that will buy anything you offer and sing your praises.
In December at my Brand Your Awesome LIVE event I will help you put words to what you stand for and what makes you the right choice for the right people. I will also show you the steps to building your brand into something you will become known for.
Take a page from Apple’s book and ignore the naysayers and do YOUR thing. There are those that need you, that you are meant to serve, and your business is the vehicle for reaching them.
