It never fails, every time I offer a webinar I get a barrage of emails with the same question:
“Are you going to be offering a replay?”
And the answer is pretty much always a resounding YES!
Now, this may not sound like a big deal, but if you’re offering webinars on a regular basis I bet you’ve wondered if you should offer a replay or not.
It doesn’t help that there is a lot of conflicting ideas on this topic:
- More people will listen if you have a replay.
- Not as many people will show up live if you have a replay.
- You’ll attract more “serious” prospects if you don’t offer a replay.
(That last one really gets my goat.)
Since I’m someone that is always looking to optimize my marketing – I’ve given this a lot of thought. I wanted to share with you my “strategy” behind offering replays in case this is a question you are also pondering.
For me, what it comes down to is this:
I know not as many people are going to show up live if I offer a replay. It’s just the way it is, if someone thinks they can catch it later – they’ll sign up with the best of intentions and may or may not actually watch the webinar.
And I’m okay with this.
For me, I know the people that are really “serious” about their business – and whose current needs revolve around the topic I’m offering – are going to see the webinar as a priority and make time for it (live or later).
Adding the element of “scarcity” isn’t going to change that, and honestly I’m just not a big fan of scaring people into engaging with me.
The other piece of the puzzle is that I know there are so many people in my community that take their businesses VERY seriously, who literally cannot attend live due to time zone differences, or other very real constraints.
What it all comes down to is this: My purpose is much larger than just a webinar.
The more people I can reach with my message and that benefit from it – the better. Whether or not they work with me.
And when it comes to clients, I’m not looking for a one-night stand. The people that work with me come because they love my message and know I’m the one that can literally bring their business to life with their brand. (And they know that because of how they’ve experienced my own marketing, webinars, and brand)
This is why I have such amazing clients 🙂
So what do you think? Replays, no replays, encores? Please feel free to share your own philosophy in the comments. (And to be clear, there are no wrong answers here)
