When we get so entrenched in building our business, sometimes it’s easy to get lost in what we’re doing and miss what is right in front of our noses!
Last week I had the pleasure of attending Experts Academy with Brendon Burchard (I highly recommend his events!) and within the first 15 minutes I got clobbered over the head with a serious epiphany.
Before I explain, for those of you that don’t know Brendon (which is actually part of the point that I’ll get to in a moment) he is a self made multimillionaire that has revolutionized the information industry. He basically has gotten his start by teaching others how to leverage their knowledge into products. He sells digital information products, seminars, and extremely high ticket coaching (like $45k a year kind of coaching). And did I mention he makes multi-millions a year doing this? The truth is, he’s only really broken out and made it big in the last couple of years… which brings me to my point.
During Brendon’s introduction he was demonstrating how easy it is to start making money in this market. To do this he had everyone stand up that had only become aware of who he was in the last year. There were 800 people in the room, and about 70% of them stood up. Wow!
Next he asked everyone who had only become aware of him in the last 6 months to stand up. Still about 40% of the room was standing. And then it hit me… you don’t have to have years in your coaching business before you can start making it big.
I think we get stuck in this mindset of putting our nose to the grind stone for a few years and then everything will be okay. That we have to SLOWLY grow our business before we reach any real success. And that we need to cultivate relationships with prospects for months and years before they will buy from us.
None of this is true though. Especially in Brendon’s case.
In Brendon’s case though his key to success wasn’t the amount of time and experience he had in his business. His secrets to success are two fold.
1. He has made strategic alliances that drive crap tons of traffic to his offerings.
2. He has a brand that immediately establishes credibility and shortens the sales cycle by miles.
Neither of these things are out of reach for any of us.
Let’s take a look at key number one, which is building strategic alliances to drive traffic to your offerings.
Creating strategic alliances is as easy as directly reaching out to people in your industry! Which is something that we so easily get hung up on. Why would they want to talk to me? What do I say to them? etc. the tunnel of small thinking goes on and on.
The truth is that these people you are afraid to talk to, well they’re human too and surprisingly… they are actually pretty nice. Successful leaders don’t get to where they are by being jerks, though there are exceptions to every rule. 😉 If you reach out to a leader in your industry and ask how you can support them I can almost guarantee you are going to get a positive response. So start cultivating these relationships now and when you’re ready to promote something they’ll be happy to be on board, and you may even find ways you can work together and collaborate on projects.
The second key is to establish a solid brand. It doesn’t matter how much traffic you drive to your site or how awesome your offering is, if people get there and don’t perceive you as credible or the product as valuable you are wasting your time.
Building a solid brand that makes people want to buy your products in this case is made up of 3 pieces.
1. Professional design.
2. Fantastic copywriting.
3. GIVING VALUE!
The design will make a visitor want to stay, the copywriting will intrigue them to find out what you’re offering, and if you’re providing value from the get go and they see how amazing you are then they’ll want to buy to see what else you’ve got up your sleeve!
It’s as simple as that.
So what I want you to take away today is that, you don’t have to wait years to break through to success. You have the tools you need at your fingertips and all it takes is a little courage to step out of your comfort zone and start building relationships and start creating a brand that you can be known for. (And of course I’m happy to help with that second part ;))
Now is your time!
